On the Smarty ship, April Williamsen is the creative architect who feeds the engine with art and ideas. In fact, April designed the ship itself (AKA the logo)! She is deeply passionate about words and design and feels blessed to be on a grand adventure that challenges both of those talents. As a natural storyteller, April excels at building narratives that connect with audiences on a human level.

She harnesses her innate curiosity and empathy to help cultivate symbiotic, evergreen relationships between consumer and brand. Prior to setting sail with Smarty, April was a digital media specialist at Internet Marketing Ninjas for 10 years. While her primary focus in school was graphic design and videography, she enriched her education with plenty of creative writing and art history classes. She loves to learn no matter the topic, a quality that makes her a dynamic and versatile marketer.

Her first step when conceptualizing any marketing idea is to ask herself, “Would I want to read this? Is this valuable? Is there a better way?”

She soaks up inspiration like sunshine and is always on the hunt for seeds of knowledge she could nurture into original content. In fact, she keeps an ever-evolving list of infographic ideas on her phone and has the thought “this would make a cool infographic!” at least three times a day. All in all, she prides herself in the work she delivers, and this personal devotion to quality shines through like a beacon on the stormy seas of marketing.

While the technical side of SEO is not her forte, April has been relishing in the opportunity to learn more from the seasoned experts aboard the Smarty ship. She has a knack for conjuring up compelling questions to ask Ann Smarty during the weekly Smarty Live! podcast (which she hopes you will attend). April is known for her kindness, easy laughter, and great love for adventure. “Dance like no one is watching” also comes to mind with April – she has a perennial lust for life that suits her name!

April loves to be active and immersed in nature, so her free time is rich with hiking, paddleboarding, camping, and biking adventures. When she is not outside admiring trees, flowers, and sunsets, April enjoys video games, thrillers, and art experiments while her dog snoozes after a fun-filled day. Kickboxing and weightlifting are also a part of April’s active armada, so you better not mess with her baby. Just kidding (sort of)!

Green. I consider myself lucky that so much of our planet is green so I get to admire my favorite color all the time.

Most rewatchable show/movie?
I have watched The X-Files in its entirety at least five times. I watch Captain America: The First Avenger for my birthdays and Howl’s Moving Castle for comfort.

The last thing that made you smile?
Watching my dog chase waves. It is her absolute favorite thing to do and the pure joy on her face never fails to make my heart feel like its bursting.
